What Type Of Game Is Nightingale?
Nightingale is a survival-crafting game where players slip into the role of a Realmwalker. Realmwalkers travel to different realms through arcane portals. In these realms, players will explore landscapes and gather materials to craft e.g. equipment, weapons, and housing structures.
By discovering more crafting recipes and collecting more materials, the player will be able to craft advanced items and explore more dangerous realms. The Realms & Realm Cards guide for Nightingale has detailed descriptions of how these mechanics work.
The game takes place in a Gaslamp fantasy setting. Gaslamp fantasy combines historical fiction of the Victorian era with fantasy elements.
Nightingale has a very distinctive set of features described below.
- There is no character level or levelling process at Nightingale. The progression is mainly based on discovering new crafting recipes and collecting materials.
- There is cooperative play with friends providing advantages, but all the content in Nightingale can be experienced solo as well.
- Nightingale has a strong focus on housing and base building.
- Players can set up their bases close to each other to build settlements that provide some advantages.
- Nightingale has a shared world. Players are located in a single home realm but can still visit their friends in other realms and even relocate their base to a new home realm.
Nightingale Release Date

Story of Nightingale
The world is collapsing and Realmwalkers are trying to reach Nightingale City. The Lore in Nightingale describes Nightingale City as a magical place and the only hope for humanity to stop the cataclysmic event that is happening.
Players are travelling through the labyrinth of realms hoping to find Nightingale City. But the realms are dangerous and Realmwalkers need to be careful.
Character Creation
Every player can have up to 3 characters in Nightingale, and at the beginning of each journey, a player will create his or her character. During the character creation, players will select a character type and a character role.
The character role will grant a unique outfit and some narrative background. The gameplay implication of the selected character role will most likely be minor at launch.
Inflexion Games is planning to go into more detail about the character creation in Nightingale in the future.
What Survival Elements Does Nightingale Have?
Nightingale has several game mechanics and elements that make Nightingale a survival game:
- Players need to eat food in Nightingale, to avoid debuffs.
- Players have a limited inventory and there is an encumbrance system in Nightingale.
- Players lose items from their inventory if they die in Nightingale.
- Players spawn in their home base after dying in Nightingale and have to travel back to pick up their lost items.
- Players need to craft their armor and weapons in Nightingale. Items crafted from different materials will provide different protection and resistance.
Does Nightingale Have Multiplayer?
Nightingale is a multiplayer game with a shared world. Players can join the home realm of a friend and visit different realms together. Realms can have up to 10 players, so technically it seems possible to play in a group of 10 players.
Is There PvP In Nightingale?
There is no PvP in Nightingale. Inflexion Games has not shared anything that would make a PvP-mode likely anytime soon but they said that PvP might be on the table later on.

Inflexion Games develops and publishes Nightingale. The development studio was founded in 2018 in Canada by ex-BioWare employees. The founders of Inflexion Games have worked on titles like Mass Effect, Dragon Age, and Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic. The CEO of Inflexion Games is Aaryn Flynn, who has been General Manager at BioWare before founding Inflexion Games.
Until February 2022 the British technology company Improbable owned Inflexion Games. In February 2022 Improbable sold its stakes to Tencent Games. Tencent Games is a Chinese company with significant investments and expertise in game companies all around the globe. The Support of Tencent Games was perceived very positively and as a great opportunity for Inflexion Games and Nightingale.
